cerca de 2600 alunos, a frequentar licenciaturas, mestrados e doutoramentos, divididos por 4 faculdades, 2 escolas superiores, 2 institutos de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e 7 centros de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o, e 3 campi localizados em S\u00e3o Miguel, Ilhas Terceira e do Faial. A miss\u00e3o da UAc abrange ensino, pesquisa e extens\u00e3o em ci\u00eancias exatas e tecnol\u00f3gicas, ci\u00eancias naturais e ambientais, ci\u00eancias m\u00e9dicas e da sa\u00fade, ci\u00eancias agr\u00edcolas, ci\u00eancias sociais e humanas.<\/p><p>A Faculdade de Ci\u00eancias e Tecnologia (FCT) da UAc dedica-se ao ensino, investiga\u00e7\u00e3o e extens\u00e3o cient\u00edfica nas \u00e1reas das Ci\u00eancias da Vida, Ci\u00eancias da Terra, Oceanografia, Matem\u00e1tica, Inform\u00e1tica, F\u00edsica, Qu\u00edmica e Engenharia. A oferta de licenciaturas da FCT compreende 18 ciclos de estudos nos 3 n\u00edveis do HE, ancorados na sua associa\u00e7\u00e3o com centros de investiga\u00e7\u00e3o, acreditados pelo sistema cient\u00edfico nacional: IVAR (Vulcanologia e Riscos Geol\u00f3gicos), MARE (Ecossistemas Aqu\u00e1ticos e Ambiente), OKEANUS (Oceanografia), InBIO e CE3C (Biodiversidade e Ci\u00eancias Ambientais). Estes centros investigam diferentes vertentes do turismo, nomeadamente: turismo s\u00e9nior, desenvolvimento de novos produtos tur\u00edsticos associados a experi\u00eancias de bem-estar e roteiros orientados para a viv\u00eancia do patrim\u00f3nio cultural e natural; valor dos recursos naturais para turismo e visita\u00e7\u00e3o; etc. A FCT tamb\u00e9m tem experi\u00eancia relevante no estudo de recursos naturais e na defini\u00e7\u00e3o de planos de gest\u00e3o para \u00e1reas ecologicamente relevantes (por exemplo, RAMSAR, Natura 2000), incluindo a avalia\u00e7\u00e3o de esp\u00e9cies raras (IUCN SSC), a defini\u00e7\u00e3o de uma estrat\u00e9gia de Esp\u00e9cies Ex\u00f3ticas Invasoras e o mapeamento da biodiversidade (A\u00e7ores Porbiota).<\/p><p>Al\u00e9m disso, os A\u00e7ores foram recentemente distinguidos com a atribui\u00e7\u00e3o do Sustainable Tourism Destination Certificate, atribu\u00eddo pelo Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
