UAB has a long experience in teaching and research in the field of tourism, and specifically ecotourism. Both the Geography Department and the School of Tourism have extensive expertise in ecotourism, nature-based tourism and interpretation of the natural heritage. UAB has been offering training courses on these topics for the last 15 years. In 2004-2005 they offered the 1st edition of the International Postgraduate course on Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism that in 2015-2016 evolved into the Postgraduate course “Ecotourism and Nature Guide”. The programme was targeted at professionals wishing to create ecotourism companies or engage in nature-guiding. The interpretation of the natural heritage component is guaranteed through an agreement with Interpret Europe, institution of reference in this topic at international level, who recognizes the corresponding module of the course with a certificate. The training is offered by recognized professors (both academic and ecotourism professionals). UAB also collaborates with many institutions and ecotourism companies, where students can undertake their internships, as part of the course.
